Bad Example of Consumer Oriented display. I think it is good that  there is a coupon with $1.00 off on the trash bags but it is not real noticiable. It should be displayed better.

Good example of a Trade Oriented  display. It is a point of purchase display that gets your attention in a good way. It shows that they support the Brewers and bring attention to the product.

I believe this to be a Good example of a Cooperative Advertising display (Trade Oriented) it is displayed in a Staples store, so they are doing business for UPS and helping both Staples and UPS.

I have no pics of the Copps gas discount with
a local gas station. It is a good idea but I sometimes think that they need to get more help on the gas station end. They are not clear. I do know that they will give you a discount at the gas station if you forgot your card which is a good idea but they don't advertise it.I suppose then it would be defeating the purpose somewhat!
I have mixed feelings about this Consumer Oriented display. It really gets the ad out there(12 at a time?)and it offers a savings but I always thought it would be an inconvenience to carry the can coupon around.

I think this to be a Good Trade Oriented display. It is displayed in a Copps shopping cart and advertises other products from other business's.

LOCAL BILLBOARD ADS AND COMMENTS

v  These billboards pics were taken by two teens. One just turned and the other will soon be turning 18 years old. I wanted what I thought would catch their eye. So I know what our demographic group is looking at.
v  Both billboards displayed short verbiage but the message is clear and to the point.
v  THE ONE WITH THE HEART has the heart as part of the wording. This helps you pay attention to what the words or message you are trying to get across.
v  The heart signifies love and the melting of the heart signifies that porn is not love.
v  THE TIRE AD is good because it shows the tire treads or tracks and says how it is a attracting. Separating the “A” from attracting yet making it appear together.
v  The ads were placed in Marshfield near Fleet Farm.
v  I would assume because Fleet Farm sells tires it was a way to distract away from them and get you to buy tires from them.
v  It also gave you the different name brands of tires available.
v  The time of year where snow and traction is a concern I believe is why that was suggested in the ad.
v  I am not sure about why the porn ad was placed there. I just assume because it was a busy road and would be seen by many and also a variety of people.

OUTDOOR ADVERTISING

CONSIDERING THAT MOST TRADITIONAL FORMS OF ADVERTISING AND PROMOTION HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING A DECLINE IN EXPENDITURES:
AD SPENDING IN OUTDOOR HAS ACTUALLY SEEN A GAIN OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS?
THE REASONS WHY I BELIEVE THIS TO BE SO OR REASONS WHY I SEE OUTDOOR ADVERTISING AS THE MOST EFFECTIVE ADVERTISING MEDIUM:

Ø   Even with the high gas prices people are still traveling in high numbers and outdoor advertising is the most cost effective way to reach a desired target audience.
Ø   Outdoor advertising is the best way to make the biggest impact possible because society is becoming more mobile.
Ø  This includes more people walking or running adding to the increase in outdoor audiences.
Ø  Print ad (newspaper, magazines) can be cluttered or wordy.
Ø  TV ads can be fast forwarded or easier ignored.
Ø  Radio ads possibly too fast?
BUT:  THE BILLBOARD, WALLSCAPES, FLEET-ADS and OTHER FORMS OF OUTDOOR ADS:
Ø  CAN BE OUT THERE FRONT AND CENTER & BIGGER THAN LIFE!

Ø  Unless you want to put blinders on and run in the ditch you most likely have to look.
Ø  Verbiage is short and to the point to be successful.
Ø  WALLSCAPES are one of the boldest creations in out-of-home media. Due to their huge size; they attract a huge amount of attention from both motorists and foot traffic.
Ø   WallScapes come in a variety of sizes.
Ø  Most WallScapes are found in urban areas where other outdoor mediums such as billboards are not possible.
Ø  The two types of billboard type ads available; ROTARY and PERMANENT allow versatility.
Ø  The permanent billboard or outdoor type of ad  line up makes it possible for advertisers:
Ø   To keep a particular location due to the high volume associated with a particular structure.
Ø  Viewing the specific structure may cause consumers to relate it to a product or the message the advertiser is trying to get across.
Ø  The rotary billboard or outdoor type of ad  line up makes it possible for advertisers:
Ø   To enter a variety of markets with the same display because it can be moved to structures that the advertiser chooses such as being moved along a pre-determined route or displayed at a different place at a certain date or length of time just as stores change their displays.
Ø  How many people have seen the big beef cow on wheels with advertisement on the side parked at a business?
Ø  What about the semi that passes by or sits in a parking lot with a billboard type ad on its side?
Ø  Fleet Ads:
Ø  Trucks drive a designated route each day, and offer 650 square feet of advertising space
Ø  You can target the area and know whom your message is reaching.
Ø  FM radio transmitter enables the customer to turn their advertisement into a moving radio commercial! Your message is continuously broadcast within a 300 ft radius of the truck. ( I am not sure how they do that but this allows your target audience to both "see" and "hear" your message) Wow I think that is great!

Ø  Over all review: they get noticed and noticed by high volumes.
Ø  Less likely to become overlooked!
Ø  It is a cost wise form of advertising.

Learning Plan #5 Blog Assignment

1.  The target audience for the magazine in terms of both demographics and lifestyle of the readers it attracts.    I chose the Family Circle and Time magazines. The Family Circle catered to women mostly and family, which usually is a topic for women. The Time magazine was all over the place. It did not target any special; I believe because it is read by all walks of life. Most likely though it will be read by adults. Anyone past the teen stage.
2.  The percentage of the magazine’s pages devoted to advertising versus editorial content (articles and other non-advertising copy).  Time magazine I would say advertised about 25% and Family Circle about 50%.
Is there a clutter problem in the magazine? Why or why not? I realize that the Family Circle being at 50% would appear to be cluttered but I would not say it is a problem because it kind of goes with the content of the magazine articles, Food , family and health. As far as the Time magazine; I don’t think that it showed signs of clutter. They were very well spaced.
3.  A breakdown of the types of products and services advertised in the magazine.  Why do you think these advertisers are attracted to this particular publication? Family Circle is family oriented as the name suggests and women. This follows suit all the way through-ads concerning food and beauty products. The marketers see and know that women will be reading this magazine and target them. Time magazine on the other hand did not target anyone in particular except to say maybe towards the more sophisticated person as in mature. You don’t see kid’s ads.  Ads like insurance and investments were most of the ads. They are attracted to this type of magazine because it is a more grown up sort of magazine and the readers may possibly be business men/women.
4.  An analysis of the editorial climate and mood created by the publication and how it affects who chooses to advertise in it.  How might the editorial climate of the magazine affect readers processing of the advertisements? Family Circle is upbeat and children oriented. If the magazine is purchased it is most likely a woman and the mood is set by the articles which would be of interest to her. I would say that it is a given for the advertisers in this magazine. The Time can be more complex. But the articles are serious and about news so therefore the ads are more business or more serious oriented. It is obvious if you are reading upbeat material you are going to be more receptive to happy go lucky ads and if you are reading about the troops overseas you are likely to respond to more of a serious type advertisement.
5.  How the magazine positions itself as a media vehicle to potential advertisers.  Well for Family Circle again I say it is all about family and women so therefore it caters to that group. So when it has its recipes and antidotes; it is a good way to expose advertising to customers. Most likely the magazine does not have to worry about getting advertisers because it is bound to be a hit. Time magazine; on the other hand I believe was all over the place and did not have a specific plan as to the layout of the magazine and the advertisements.

Comparing cable and network stations commercials

I watched WGN and LIFETIME and WSAW; a CBS station.  What I noticed was that with the cable show the commercials all seemed to follow a theme. You would see a lot of small ones bunched together and a few that seemed to be awful long, but they still kept with the same theme such as life insurances, and health and healthy eating. Campbell’s had three ads in one show. I think the commercials were pretty much the same on both as far as length and style. It was just that they appeared to be in a theme for the cable. The CBS station showed theirs in a sporadic way; every commercial not connected. I actually liked the variety more.
